First trial with the self designed and laser cut metal plates.
At the weekend I worked on the boom and stick of the excavator. I got the laser cut parts on Wednesday. Two components were bad, that was my bad, because during drawing I did some mistakes, so some hole were in bad position… Fortunately this fails not were too big to stop the construction and welding, so after some hand modification I could finish the boom and partly the stick.
Boom and Stick welding with TIG.
As you can see on the pictures the construction welded inside (main elements welded strongly). The “teeth and holes” connections were welded with own material of plates, that worked well!
The side elements, like the upper, under and side cover plates welded in points. The stick’s side cover plates not finished yet, because there are two holes which are in bad position (as I mentioned before).
As I see the construction is strong enough, stronger than the necessary. I’m glad…
I think, I can work on the welded seams (with rasp) and grinding the surfaces during this week.
I learned much during this weekend. As I mentioned before, I never weld with TIG method before. I tried some machine settings, and I grinded the tungsten electrode so many times. In my opinion it is OK. There are some unsightly welded seams, but as the time gone, the seams were better and better. My father has experience from welding, because it is a part of his job. We talked about my welding and he said this project will be a good course to learn. He said that he know, this project is important for me, and in his opinion I would like to construct this excavator in the best quality as I can. So this things will be motivate me to learn welding.
At the next weekend I will modify the stick’s side plates and after I will finish the welding process on the stick.
As you can see the boom, there is a hole without sleeve. This part is under construction, if that part arrive, I just weld it into the boom, and the boom construction will be finished.
